BEFORE YOUR PLEXR OR NEOGEN APPOINTMENT
Every treatment at Gia Sena begins well before the day of your appointment. The process is intentional from the start.
It begins with a consultation form. You’ll share your health history, skin concerns, and what you’re hoping to achieve. From there, we connect for a consultation, either by phone or in person, to go through your information together, understand your goals more fully, and talk through what’s realistic and right for your skin.
Once we’ve reviewed your medical history and discussed your options, a treatment plan is made. That might mean Plexr, NeoGen, or a combination of both, depending on what you’re goals are. We review what the process and recovery time looks like in terms of timeline and aftercare. If you’re ready to move forward, we’ll book your appointment with a deposit to hold your date.
After booking, you’ll receive an email that includes your full pre- and post-care instructions to review before your appointment. If your treatment requires a numbing cream prescription, those details are included at this stage. A prescription numbing cream is required for your safety and is part of our compliance with provincial and federal health regulations and nursing practice standards in Alberta.
On the day of your appointment, we begin by reviewing your plan one more time together. We go over your consent, answer any remaining questions, and cleanse the treatment area. This is where everything comes together: your goals, your skin, and the approach we’ve planned. Nothing begins until you feel fully prepared and ready.
What Actually Happens During a Plasma Treatment
During Your Treatment
Once you’re prepped and settled, the treatment begins. What it feels like, and how long it takes, depends on the device being used and what we’re treating.
What You’ll Feel
With Plexr, the sensation is often described as a mild pin-prick or a quick elastic snap against the skin. With NeoGen, it’s a series of controlled, warm pulses delivered across the treatment area. With both, you’ll hear a snapping or clicking sound from the device, and you may notice a brief smell similar to hair burning. This is completely normal and temporary.
Most clients find the treatments very manageable. Your comfort is accounted for throughout.
A Note on Numbing
When prescription numbing cream is part of your plan, it’s applied at the start of your appointment and given time to take effect before treatment begins. This is built into your appointment time, so there’s nothing to rush.
How Long Will It Take?
Appointment length varies depending on the treatment and the area being addressed. As a general guide:
Shorter appointments, around 45 minutes to an hour, typically apply to a single focused area with semi-ablative plexr, non-ablative Plexr, or lower energy NeoGen where no numbing is required.
Longer appointments, up to 2 hours, are more common when numbing is needed, when multiple areas are being treated, or when NeoGen is used with higher energy settings or broader coverage.
Your specific appointment length will be confirmed at the time of booking so you can plan accordingly.
This Is What Normal Looks Like:
Immediately After Plasma Treatment
Immediately After Treatment
When your treatment is done, your skin will look and feel different right away. This is expected and it’s the beginning of your skin’s response.
Before you leave, the treatment area is assessed, any immediate aftercare is applied as needed, and you’ll go home with written post-care instructions and product required for post-care.
With Plexr, you’ll see small carbon crusts forming on the surface of the skin — they are protective. Think of them as your skin’s natural shield while regeneration begins underneath. The area will also look red, feel warm, and will begin to tighten and swell. All of this is a normal part of the inflammatory response that drives collagen remodeling.
With NeoGen, the skin behaves differently. Rather than forming crusts, the outer layer remains intact and acts as a biological bandage, protecting the deeper regenerative work happening underneath. You’ll notice splotchy redness, warmth, and a tight, dry feeling — similar to a sunburn. Some bronzing and gentle peeling will follow over the coming days as the skin renews from within.
Regardless of which treatment you’ve had, the inflammation and visible changes you see in the first hours and days are the process working. Reaching for ice or anti-inflammatory medication to suppress them is counterproductive — the response is the regeneration.
You’ll leave with clear guidance on exactly what to do, what to avoid, and what to expect in the days ahead. You will be able to reach out during business hours with any further questions over the course of your recovery time.
Plasma treatments work because they ask something real of your skin. That means recovery is not an afterthought — it’s where your results are built. Most people need time away from their normal routine, and planning for that makes all the difference.
Below is a visual look at how the skin moves through the healing process after both a semi-ablative Plexr and high energy NeoGen treatment. Every person heals on their own timeline, and individual responses will vary — but this gives you an honest and accurate picture of what to expect.
PLEXR
Immediately after Plexr Treatment.
NEOGEN
Immediately after NeoGen treatment.
Immediate post-treatment response following Plexr (semi-ablative) where the skin has carbon crusts as part of the healing process.
Immediate post-treatment response following NeoGen, where the skin appears uniformly red as part of the healing process. Redness increases by the evening of treatment day (see below).
Healing Is Not a Setback. It's the Work.
HEALING & RECOVERY TIMELINE
These treatments work by supporting the skin’s natural regenerative process. What you see on the surface is only part of what’s happening underneath.
The visible changes you move through in the days after treatment are not side effects to manage. They are evidence of the process working. Collagen is rebuilding. The skin is renewing itself at a structural level. What looks like recovery is actually the result being created.
PLEXR SEMI-ABLATIVE
Day 1 through 9 post Plexr upper and lower eye laxity treatment.
Days 1–3
Skin will feel warm, tight. This is your body beginning its repair process. Swelling is expected. Swelling can cause mild discomfort for initial 48 hours.
Days 3–5
Carbon crusts remain in place as the skin regenerates beneath them. Swelling decreases.
Days 5–10
Surface healing becomes more visible. Flaking or shedding of carbon crusts occur as new skin emerges.
Weeks following
Collagen remodeling continues beneath the surface, with gradual improvements in tone, texture, and structure.

NEOGEN HIGH ENERGY
Day 1 through 11 post NeoGen full face and neck skin laxity treatment.
Days 1–3
Redness and tightening occur and are part of the normal response. This is your body beginning its repair process. The intact outer layer of skin functions as a protective barrier while internal remodeling begins. It is not painful.
Days 4–10
Surface healing becomes more visible. Flaking, peeling occurs as new skin emerges.
Weeks following
Collagen remodeling continues beneath the surface, with continued improvements in tone, texture, and structure.

PLASMA REGENERATION
The Right Approach
Plasma treatments like Plexr and NeoGen work at a structural level—focusing on long-term strength and vitality, with a short healing phase that supports deeper, more lasting change.
